From an early age, I was fascinated by art and design. This interest led me to study Publicity Design at the Academy of Visual Arts in Utrecht, where I graduated in 1985. Shortly afterwards, I settled in Breugel in the south of the Netherlands, where I continue to live and work today.
My professional career began in advertising, including a position as art director at Ogilvy & Mather. In the years that followed, I worked for several agencies, further refining my vision of communication, imagery and creative thinking. In 1993, I founded my own studio, Goed Werk Communicatie, where I work as creative director, focusing on positioning and visual identity development.
Alongside my professional practice, art has always played an essential role. What began with drawing and painting evolved in the late 1980s into the creation of aerial sculptures. Using materials such as spinnaker fabric, carbon, bamboo and Nepalese Lokta paper, I developed works that were exhibited nationally and internationally and featured in numerous international festivals.
After a period of reflection, I returned to this artistic practice with renewed focus. In my current work, bamboo and paper take centre stage. The tactile and handcrafted nature of these materials forms a deliberate counterbalance to my digital activities, including image editing, animation and experiments with artificial intelligence. While digital processes often require an analytical approach, natural materials offer space for intuition, attention and discovery.
In my recent series The Mergers and Architectura Conscientiae, this exploration takes shape through paper relief sculptures and spatial constructions. By cutting, connecting and layering paper, I create complex structures that refer to growth, connection and transformation. The works move between the organic and the constructed, exploring how form, material and imagination interact.
The unique qualities of bamboo and paper remain fundamental to my work. Their natural appearance and timeless character provide a tangible and handcrafted foundation. The tension between contemporary forms and traditional materials is a defining aspect of my visual language.
In addition to my work with paper and bamboo, I am active in animation, AI-generated imagery and landscape photography. Together, these disciplines form an ongoing exploration of form, meaning and imagination.
